Gifting and payment · 5 min read

How baby registry gifting and payment actually works in Nigeria

Before you share your GiftingNest registry link with family, it's worth knowing exactly what happens when someone taps gift, what they see, what they pay, and where that payment actually goes. Here's the whole flow, plainly.

No account needed to gift

Anyone with your GiftingNest link can gift an item without creating an account or downloading anything. This matters more here than it might elsewhere, plenty of relatives who want to gift you something have never signed up for an app in their life, and shouldn't have to start now.

Gift a full item, or gift part of one

On each item, a gifter sees two options: cover it in full, or send part of the cost. If an item costs ₦24,500 and someone can only manage ₦5,000, they send that instead, and the remaining balance stays open for the next person, or for you to cover later.

Where the payment actually goes

Payments are processed securely through Paystack, supporting local cards and bank transfers, so a gifter isn't stuck needing a foreign card to gift you something. Once an item is fully paid for, it moves into ready for delivery, which you control from your dashboard.

What if nobody covers the whole thing

Partial contributions aren't a dead end. If an item sits partly funded as your due date gets closer, you can complete the remaining balance yourself, the same way a gifter would, and move it straight to delivery.

What makes this work in Nigeria specifically

  • Paystack support for local bank transfer and cards means an aunty in Lagos and a cousin abroad can both gift without friction.
  • WhatsApp is where the actual gifting conversation happens, your link works the same whether it's shared in a family group chat or one-on-one.
  • Group gifting, several people covering one big item together, fits how extended family here already tends to contribute for big occasions.
